National Laboratory of the Rockies Energy Systems Integration Facility High Performance Computing Request for Information

The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is seeking information on high-performance computing systems for its Energy Systems Integration Facility (ESIF). The system should have GPU-accelerated compute, CPU-based compute, storage, and high-speed interconnect. The system must be compatible with the ESIF data center, which balances energy efficiency with computational performance. NLR is looking for a system that can meet the mission needs of the Department of Energy's Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation (CMEI) in the 2028-2032 timeframe. The system should have the following characteristics: • GPU-accelerated compute for AI/ML workloads and traditional HPC applications • CPU-based compute for workloads that are not GPU-accelerated • Storage with high-bandwidth, low-latency support for large-scale HPC workloads • High-speed interconnect for scalability and node-level computational performance • Consumption-based compute augmentation for flexible capacity The system should be delivered in two phases, with the first phase delivered in December 2027 and the second phase delivered in May 2029. NLR is seeking information on payment structures, including lease-to-own, milestone-based, and other payment models.
