Description

The City of Worcester is seeking a qualified vendor to furnish, deliver, and install solar‑powered rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB) for pedestrian crossings. The contract covers full system installation—including poles, solar panels, LED modules, cabinets, push‑buttons, signage, and a wireless master/remote communication system—on a one‑year basis with up to two optional one‑year renewals. The solicitation requires an aluminum cabinet, a MassDOT‑approved controller, and compliance with detailed technical specifications for durability and ADA accessibility. Bids must be submitted in sealed envelopes by the deadline, and the award will be made to the lowest responsible and responsive bidder. • Supply and install complete RRFB sets (two poles, solar collectors, LED units, push‑buttons, signage, and wireless control). • Must meet strict material (aluminum cabinet) and controller (MassDOT‑approved) requirements per Addendum 2. • One‑year performance period (Aug 12 2022 – Aug 11 2023) with optional renewals; warranty of one year after acceptance.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $200,000

No contract value is disclosed, but comparable municipal RRFB procurements typically range from $50 k for a limited pilot deployment to $200 k for a city‑wide rollout. The estimate assumes 10–40 beacon sets at $5 k–$5 k each, plus installation and warranty costs. Factors influencing the final amount include the number of intersections equipped, any optional renewals, and additional service or maintenance agreements.
