The High-Performance Computing for Energy Innovation (HPC4EI) program is seeking qualified industry partners to participate in high-impact collaborative projects with the U.S. Department of Energy's national laboratories. The program aims to address complex manufacturing and materials challenges relevant to the U.S. energy sector by providing access to high-performance computing facilities and world-class science and engineering staff. Selected industry partners will receive awards of up to $400,000 per project to support high-performance computing cycles and technical work performed by the national laboratory staff. Key areas of interest include advanced materials and manufacturing technologies, industrial technologies, and the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve manufacturing processes.
Some of the key challenges and opportunities that this program will address include:
• Development of advanced materials to improve the performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness of energy systems and technologies
• Development of manufacturing processes to strengthen U.S. industrial competitiveness and energy security
• Improvement of industrial process heating, including reducing cost, improving efficiency, or enhancing product quality
• Development of non-thermal processes for cost-competitive separations and treatments
• Industrial technologies that can ensure grid reliability in the face of industrial demand growth
• Technologies at the water-energy nexus that enable production of fit-for-purpose water
