Description

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is seeking detailed information from potential providers regarding commercially available or near-production Deep Water Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) that can support the Office of Ocean Exploration and Research's (OER) ocean exploration mission. The information gathered will be used for internal planning and market analysis to determine the availability and suitability of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) or modified AUV systems that meet NOAA Ocean Exploration mission requirements. Some key points to consider: • Maximum Operating Depth: 6,000 meters or greater • Endurance: 48 hours or greater • Navigation System: INS/DVL with Acoustic Positioning (USBL/LBL) • Maximum Speed: 4 knots or greater • Payload Volume: 1 cubic meter or greater • Communication: Real-time data telemetry (where possible) The respondents are requested to provide detailed information covering technical and operational areas, including AUV system specifications, sensor payload capability, operations and logistics, data requirements, and cost.

Budget estimate

$1,500,000 – $10,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate as it is a Request for Information (RFI) and not a solicitation for a contract. However, based on the information provided, it appears that NOAA is seeking to purchase or lease AUV systems for ocean exploration. The cost of such systems can vary widely depending on the specifications and capabilities. A rough estimate for the cost of an AUV system could be in the range of $1 million to $5 million, depending on the complexity of the system and the sensors and equipment required. Additionally, the cost of maintenance, support, and training for the AUV system could add hundreds of thousands of dollars to the total cost over a three-year period. Therefore, a rough estimate for the total budget for this opportunity could be in the range of $1.5 million to $10 million over a three-year period.
