The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks is seeking competitive bids to establish 220 acres of prairie hay harvesting in designated areas throughout Kanapolis State Park. The term of the permit will be from the date of contract execution to December 31, 2026, and may be renewed for three additional three-year periods. The permit award will be determined by competitive bid for the highest cash rent on a per-acre basis for the 220 available acres.
• The haying program at Kanapolis is used in conjunction with other habitat management techniques as deemed necessary by the department.
• Haying will be used to stimulate native grass growth, increase wildlife benefits, and control unwanted vegetation.
• All haying will be conducted between June 25 and July 31 of each year.
• Hay cutting, bailing, and hauling will be conducted Monday through Thursday.
• Permittee will retain 100% of hay.
• Hay area will be restricted to designated areas only.
• Some areas may not be hayed each year, and environmental conditions will be a determining factor.
