This project involves modernizing an existing passenger elevator, installing a new hydraulic elevator in the same shaft, and upgrading the main entrance to meet ADA accessibility standards at Wayne State University’s 400 Mack Avenue campus. The work must be performed in an occupied building, requiring careful coordination of utilities, temporary facilities, and strict adherence to university safety, smoke‑free, and prevailing‑wage policies.
• Refurbish existing elevator cab finishes, control systems, alarms, and fire‑protection equipment while keeping one elevator operational at all times.
• Install a new hydraulic passenger elevator (including machine‑room upgrades, hydraulic piping, and safety systems) in the existing shaft.
• Renovate the main entrance vestibule to improve pedestrian flow and ADA‑compliant access, including demolition of existing finishes and construction of fire‑rated partitions, doors, and finishes.
• Provide all required structural modifications, temporary site facilities, demolition, and site cleanup; contractor must supply its own dumpster and assume liability for any lawn/landscaping damage.
• Compliance requirements include WSU prevailing‑wage rates, certified payroll, 5 % bid bond (if bid ≥ $50 k), 100 % performance/payment bonds, insurance minimums, smoke‑free campus policy, and a $500/day liquidated‑damage clause.
