Sustainable Land Imaging (SLI) Commercialization Plan Industry Week with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) | U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) are hosting an Industry Week to inform the private sector of their commercialization strategy for the Sustainable Land Imaging (SLI) program. The event aims to engage with the Earth observation industry, data analytics firms, and ground-based calibration and validation spectrometer and/or thermal radiometer manufacturers. The goal is to establish a commercially enabled model for the Landsat program, where the commercial sector contributes to the production and delivery of Landsat-quality data products and services. • The SLI commercialization strategy includes a product-based approach, where commercial providers supply Landsat-compatible data and contribute to the generation of higher-order science products. • The strategy also involves a demonstration phase, where industry demonstration studies will be supported to generate select Landsat-compatible products from commercial data. • A phased product plan will be developed to systematically build, test, and demonstrate the commercial data and product generation ecosystem. • The government intends to move toward a model where commercial providers are integral contributors to the Landsat program, rather than peripheral vendors.
