Mechanical Plans Engineer, Senior

The City of Seattle’s Department of Construction & Inspections is seeking a senior‑level Mechanical Plans Engineer to provide independent review of complex mechanical and energy system designs for new construction and alterations. The consultant will interpret Seattle Mechanical and Energy Codes, evaluate performance‑based compliance, review energy models and Total Building Performance reports, and serve as a technical resource for internal staff. Qualifications must be submitted electronically by November 20, 2026. • Review and approve mechanical and energy system plans for compliance with Seattle Mechanical Code and Seattle Energy Code. • Perform code interpretation, alternative methods guidance, and energy‑analysis calculations as needed. • Evaluate energy modeling documentation and Total Building Performance reports for performance‑based compliance. • Respond to public and applicant inquiries on complex or controversial mechanical/energy topics. • Provide mentorship and technical assistance to the SDCI mechanical engineering team. • Minimum: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related) + 5 years experience, including 2 years mechanical plans review. • Optional pre‑submittal conference on Nov 12, 2026 (non‑mandatory). • Submission via Seattle’s OpenGov procurement portal; contact Denise Campbell for questions.
