The USDA Forest Service is issuing a Sources‑Sought/RFI to gather capability statements from vendors able to conduct forest thinning, hazardous‑fuel reduction, and associated site work within the Caldor‑Fire‑burned area of the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. The effort will use a Cut‑to‑Length (CTL) harvesting system, mechanical mastication, biomass removal, and temporary road construction/de‑commissioning, with optional hand‑thinning tasks on additional units. Vendors must demonstrate experience with CTL operations, equipment mobilization, environmental protections (stream‑course, wildlife, and utility safeguards), and compliance with USDA Forest Service specifications.
• Perform CTL harvest on ~205 acres (Units 7, 20, 21) – cutting, processing, and forwarding timber to landings.
• Conduct mechanical fuel‑treatment (mastication) on the same acreage and remove ~2,603 tons of biomass for off‑site disposal.
• Build, maintain, and later de‑commission temporary access roads (≈1.4 mi) and implement erosion‑control structures.
• Optional hand‑thinning and hand‑fuel‑treatment on an additional 177 acres (Units 8 & 10).
• All work must meet strict environmental safeguards (stream‑course protection, snag retention, fire‑tool boxes, and compliance with USDA specifications C2.30#, C6.41#, C6.42#).
