Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking information from potential sources for a tunable low-noise short wavelength visible coherent light source system. The system should be able to generate 200 mW or more of coherent 780 nm light from 10 mW or less of 1550 nm light. The notice provides detailed technical specifications for the system, including laser waveform, input and output wavelengths, output power, and output polarization. • The system should have a continuous-wave laser waveform. • The input wavelength should be 1560 nm (+/- 2 nm). • The output wavelength should be half of the input wavelength. • The output power should be 200 mW or higher. • The input power should be 10 mW or lower. • The output polarization should be linear with a polarization extinction ratio (PER) of 17 or higher. • The output linewidth should be 10 MHz or lower. • The fundamental rejection from output should be 40 dB or higher. • The output power stability should be 1% or lower rms variation over 1 hour. • The input coupling should be PM fiber, FC/APC termination. • The output coupling should be PM fiber, FC/APC termination. • The instrument control should be front panel control. • The AC power supply should be 60 Hz 115 VAC. • The form factor should be a single unit, fitting in a standard 19” rack, or smaller.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $500,000

The notice does not provide information on the budget amount. However, based on the technical specifications and the fact that this is a sources sought notice for a specialized scientific instrument, the budget amount could be significant. A rough estimate for the cost of such a system could be in the range of $50,000 to $500,000, depending on the complexity of the system and the materials used. The actual budget amount will depend on various factors, including the vendor's pricing, the government's budget, and the level of competition.
