Description

The Smithsonian Institution is seeking offers to upgrade the sanitary and storm systems at the National Museum of Natural History. The project includes the installation of new sanitary and stormwater piping systems, removal and disposal of old piping, lead and asbestos abatement, and other related work. The project must be executed with extreme care to protect the museum's collections, exhibits, and research operations, and preserve its historic architecture features. The successful offeror will be required to meet specific subcontracting goals and comply with applicable codes, historic preservation requirements, safety regulations, and Smithsonian Institution design and construction standards. Key aspects of the project include: • Installation of new sanitary and stormwater piping systems • Rerouting stormwater and sanitary piping to avoid sensitive areas • Capping off abandoned piping and removal of old piping • Lead and asbestos abatement • Installation of new sanitary and storm piping within the existing tunnel system • Tie-in of new systems to the existing infrastructure • Development of a comprehensive erosion and sediment control plan
