R602--DECEASED DONOR ORGAN RECOVERY PERFUSION AND TRANSPORTATION TRANSMEDICS INC INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE

The Department of Veterans Affairs, Network Contracting Office 04, intends to negotiate a sole source contract with TransMedics, Inc. for deceased donor organ recovery, perfusion, and transportation services. The contractor will provide an integrated service that includes surgical deceased donor liver recovery, normothermic machine perfusion of the donor organ, and transportation of the donor organ to the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System transplant center. The contractor must have the capability to provide qualified recovery surgeons, air and ground logistics, and trained ICU/CCM registered nurses to maintain the perfusion equipment and monitor organ viability during transportation. Some key requirements of the contract include: • Providing qualified recovery surgeons to travel to the location of identified deceased organ donors within the continental United States • Coordinating organ transplant logistics with regional Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) • Maintaining liver viability through the use of a contractor-provided Normothermic Machine Perfusion (NMP) device • Transporting the organ to the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System transplant center while preserving its viability • Providing trained ICU/CCM registered nurses to maintain the perfusion equipment and monitor organ viability during transportation
