Description
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is offering a competitive grant to eligible municipalities to fund police and fire staffing shortfalls for fiscal year 2027. Applicants may request funds for restoring or retaining sworn officers, civilian support staff, or covering overtime to meet public safety needs. The grant pool totals approximately $6.72 million and awards are made after an online application deadline on 23 Oct 2026. Recipients must execute a contract, submit quarterly financial reports, and comply with state procurement and grant regulations.
• Eligible municipalities (10 listed) can apply for staffing, overtime, or civilian support funding.
• Funding must be used solely for FY 2027 (01 Jan 2027 – 31 Dec 2027) and is disbursed in two equal installments after contract execution.
• Applicants must submit an online application with narrative, budget workbook, and supporting rate agreements by the deadline; no paper submissions are accepted.
• The grant requires adherence to Massachusetts procurement statutes (M.G.L. Ch. 30B) and OSD purchasing guidelines; “Other” costs are capped at 10 % of the award.
• Award notifications are expected in November/December 2026, with contract execution preceding any expenditures.
