FY 2023 NICS Act Record Improvement Program

The Bureau of Justice Statistics is announcing the continuation of the NICS Act Record Improvement Program (NARIP) in FY 2023. The program aims to assist states in providing certain information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and prescribes grant penalties for noncompliance with the NIAA's record completeness goals. The program priorities for this year include enhancing the completeness, automation, and transmittal of records to state and federal systems used by the NICS, and improving the overall reporting of persons prohibited from possessing firearms for reasons related to domestic violence and mental health to the NICS. • The program is open to state governments, state courts, and native american tribal governments. • The estimated funding for the program is $25,000,000. • The award ceiling is $25,000,000 and the award floor is $12,500,000. • The application deadline is June 7, 2023. • The program is expected to fund 22 applications.
