Description

The Los Alamos National Laboratory is offering a technology licensing opportunity for AddiSteel HT, a type of additively manufactured ferritic steel with enhanced high-temperature performance. This steel has the potential to replace costly nickel superalloys in many high-heat applications, reducing material expense. The advantages of AddiSteel HT include being up to 85% stronger at 600°C than conventionally processed Grade 91 steel, stronger and more ductile at the same time, and having potential to replace costly nickel superalloys. The market applications for this technology include nuclear energy, power generation, automotive and transportation, oil, gas and chemical processing, aerospace and defense, and industrial manufacturing. Some key points about this opportunity include: • The steel is produced using a powder bed fusion process with carefully tuned laser settings. • The resulting material is up to 85% stronger at 600°C than its conventionally made counterpart. • The performance gains are significant enough that printed ferritic steel could serve as a lower-cost alternative to nickel-based superalloys. • The technology has a wide range of potential applications across the energy and industrial sectors. • The Los Alamos National Laboratory is offering this technology for licensing through exclusive and non-exclusive agreements.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $1,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate because the document does not specify the terms of the licensing agreement. However, based on the potential applications and the competitive advantage that AddiSteel HT could provide, it is possible that the licensing fees could be substantial. The budget could be in the range of $100,000 to $1,000,000 or more, depending on the terms of the agreement and the success of the technology in the market. The factors that may influence the likely payment range include the scope of the licensing agreement, the potential revenue generated by the technology, and the competitive landscape of the industry.
