Description

The City of Pittsburgh is seeking bids for the installation of an ignition override system on 32 vehicles, including Ford F550s, Ford F450s, Ford E350s, and Chevy Tahoes/Suburbans. The system must be a completely hidden ignition override platform that allows engines to remain running with superior fail-safe override protection. The system must also allow the engine to remain running with the key removed, but cut off power if the vehicle is moved without re-inserting the key. The vendor must provide a pricing proposal that includes the cost of the devices and installation for each vehicle. • The device should be a completely hidden ignition override platform that allows engines to remain running with superior fail-safe override protection. • The system must allow the engine to remain running with the key removed, but cut off power if the vehicle is moved without re-inserting the key. • Interior Equipment Power – Must maintain power to critical systems such as radios, lights, HVAC, and medical equipment while the engine is running. • Temperature Range – Must operate in extreme conditions (e.g., −30°C to +85°C). • Memory Sensing – Should detect key removal and automatically engage the override mode. • Encapsulation -Fully encapsulated units to protect against dust, moisture, and vibration. • Voltage & Power – Typically 12V DC (24V versions available for heavy-duty vehicles). • By-Pass Capacity – Multiple 20A by-pass outputs to handle high-draw accessories like refrigeration or medical equipment. • Deactivation – Simple re-insertion of the key and ignition to “on” should fully deactivate the system. • Anti-Theft Certification – Units must be approved for emergency vehicle use. • Tamper Resistance – Physical and electronic safeguards to prevent unauthorized override. • No Unauthorized Movement – Engine shutdown if vehicle is attempted to be driven without the key. • Compliance with Highway Code / Local Laws – Must meet applicable vehicle security and operation regulations. • Ease of Installation – Should integrate with existing vehicle wiring without major modifications.
