The City of Port St. Lucie is proposing a Vehicle Purchasing Plan to allow for greater flexibility in purchasing vehicles due to supply chain issues and production delays in the automotive industry. The plan recommends waiving the formal bidding process and approving the purchase of available vehicles on the lots of local and statewide dealerships, as long as they are within 10% of the cooperative contract pricing. The plan aims to provide flexibility to acquire vehicles budgeted for purchase and/or replacement in the remainder of fiscal year 2023 and next fiscal year 2024. Key aspects of the plan include:
• Considering vehicle stock at local and statewide dealerships
• Comparing prices to those of similarly outfitted vehicles ordered through the Florida Sheriff's and State of Florida contracts
• Waiving the formal bidding process
• Approving the purchase of available vehicles on the lots of local and statewide dealerships
• Utilizing budgeted funds for vehicle purchases
The plan is expected to cost less than acquiring vehicles in the subsequent order window and will enable the City to acquire vehicles up to 12 months earlier.
