Description

The Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) is issuing a FY 2026 grant competition to fund community‑ and school‑based youth drug prevention programs. Eligible applicants include state, local, tribal governments and nonprofit organizations (both 501(c)(3) and non‑501(c)(3)). Up to 16 awards will be made, with a total estimated funding pool of $12 million and a maximum award ceiling of $750 k per grantee. The program seeks to build capacity and implement a continuum of prevention strategies—education, early intervention, mentoring, referral to treatment, and coordinated investigations with law enforcement and community coalitions—to reduce youth substance use. • Target audience: youth in schools and extracurricular settings • Eligible entities: states, counties, cities/townships, tribal governments, and nonprofit organizations • Funding mechanism: grant (CFDA 16.838 – Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and other Substances Use Program) • Estimated total funding: $12 M; award ceiling $750 k; award floor $0 • Expected number of applications: ~225 • Submission window: 09/21/2026 – 11/09/2026 • No cost‑sharing required; award decisions expected after the closing date.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $750,000

The total award pool is $12 million for up to 16 grantees, implying an average award of $750 k (the stated ceiling). In practice, many awards will be smaller; typical grant sizes for similar youth‑prevention programs range from $100 k to $750 k. Therefore, a realistic budget range for a single successful applicant is roughly $100 k at the low end (for smaller community entities) up to $750 k at the high end (for larger state or multi‑jurisdictional projects). Factors influencing the final amount include the scope of services, geographic coverage, and the applicant’s capacity to leverage additional resources.
