Description

The Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) Community-based Coalition Enhancement Grants to Address Local Drug Crises Grants (CARA Local Drug Crises Grants) is a funding opportunity that aims to prevent and reduce the use of opioids, methamphetamines, and prescription drugs among youth ages 12-18 in communities throughout the United States. The program has two goals: to prevent or reduce the use of these substances among youth, and to change the culture and context regarding the acceptability of youth use and misuse of these substances. Eligible applicants are community-based coalitions that address opioid, methamphetamine, and/or prescription drug use/misuse by local youth. The award is expected to be around $75,000 per applicant per 12-month budget period, with a total program funding of $18,750,000 over a 5-year period of performance. • The program aims to enhance the efforts of current or former DFC recipients to prevent substance use among youth. • The award will support community-based coalitions to prevent opioid, methamphetamine, and prescription drug misuse among youth. • The program has a focus on rural, American Indian/Alaska Native, and economically disadvantaged communities. • The award will be for a period of 5 years, with 12-month budget periods. • The expected start date is September 30, 2026.
