Description

NASA is seeking qualified vendors to perform quantitative analysis of brain MRI data to support research on Spaceflight‑Associated Neuro‑ocular Syndrome (SANS). The work involves generating brain volumetric measurements and cerebrospinal‑fluid hydrodynamics assessments for up to 42 MRI studies, with annual reporting requirements. The effort will be performed at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston, Texas, under a contract period from October 1 2026 to September 30 2029 (base plus one option year). Interested parties must submit written capability statements by the deadline; oral responses are not accepted. • Perform volumetric and CSF flow analysis on up to 42 astronaut MRI scans (20 in base period, 22 in option year). • Deliver yearly written reports interpreting the results and aligning with SANS project milestones. • Work must be conducted at McGovern Medical School, UT Health Science Center, Houston, TX, following NASA‑specified analysis methodology (Kramer et al., 2024). • No budget or award amount disclosed; submission is a pre‑award capability solicitation to determine if competition is feasible. • Primary point of contact is Cara Craft (NASA), email provided; all communications must be in writing.

Budget estimate

$150,000 – $300,000

Because no contract ceiling is disclosed, a reasonable estimate can be derived from typical rates for specialized neuro‑imaging analysis. Assuming a rate of $150–$200 per MRI dataset (covering data processing, volumetric calculations, CSF flow modeling, and reporting) for up to 42 scans yields roughly $22,500–$30,000 per year. Adding project management, travel (if any), and overhead for a three‑year effort brings the total to approximately $150,000–$300,000. This range reflects variability in vendor pricing, potential option year activation, and any additional consulting services that may be required.
