Description

The County of Riverside is seeking qualified veterinarians to provide regular checkups and emergency care for the Riverside County Sheriff's Canines (K-9) units. The selected veterinarians will be responsible for providing medical care, including routine health examinations, preventive care, and emergency medical services. They will also be required to develop healthcare protocols, collaborate with law enforcement to assess the animals' physical and psychological needs, and provide guidance on nutrition and injury prevention. The qualified veterinarians will remain valid for one year and may be renewed annually at the Board's approval. • The K-9 Team consists of 32 specialized dogs, with plans to add three more this fiscal year. • The selected veterinarians will be required to have a strong background in K-9 care with a minimum of three years of professional veterinary experience. • The veterinarians will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of the K-9 units, which are essential for community safety. • The County reserves the right to terminate the approval of the pre-qualified veterinary service provider without cause by providing 30 days' written notice.

Budget estimate

$200,000 – $500,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate, as the document does not provide a specific amount. However, considering the services required, including routine health examinations, preventive care, and emergency medical services, the budget is likely to be substantial. The cost of veterinary care for 32 dogs, with plans to add three more, could be significant. Assuming an average annual cost of $5,000 to $10,000 per dog, the total cost for the K-9 units could range from $160,000 to $350,000 per year. Additionally, the cost of emergency medical services, diagnostic tests, and other expenses could add to the overall budget. Therefore, a rough estimate for the budget could be between $200,000 and $500,000 per year.
