State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula

The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration is announcing the availability of $100 million in grant funds for the State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula (SAEF2) program. The program aims to support states in expanding their Registered Apprenticeship systems, increasing access to apprenticeship opportunities, and improving the overall quality of apprenticeships. The funding will be awarded through two avenues: Base Formula Funding and Competitive Funding. Base Formula Funding will provide annual funding to states to support the implementation and expansion of key cross-cutting principles, such as expanding access and equity, and improving employer engagement. Competitive Funding will be awarded to states that demonstrate readiness to adopt innovative strategies and expand apprenticeship opportunities in key priority areas. • Expanding access to apprenticeship opportunities for underrepresented populations and underserved communities • Improving employer engagement and increasing adoption of Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs) • Aligning apprenticeship programs with state economic development strategies and publicly-funded workforce investment systems • Creating and expanding pre-apprenticeship programs leading to RAPs • Supporting the development of new RAPs and expanding existing ones in key industries and occupations
