Electrification of City Facilities

The City of Palo Alto is seeking a qualified design firm to provide professional design and construction administration services for the electrification of city facilities. The selected firm will provide building assessment, design, cost estimates, and construction administration services for each facility listed in the RFP. The project will follow the traditional design-bid-build delivery method. The scope of work includes complying with all applicable codes, laws, and regulations, assessing existing gas-powered units and their functions, designing new electrical systems, and converting gas-powered systems to electric alternatives. The Consultant is expected to be fully versed in all permitting requirements for municipal facility electrification projects. • The City has identified five pilot facilities for electrification, including the Art Center, College Terrace Library, Downtown Library, Golf Course Pro Shop/Cafe, and Ventura Community Center. • The Consultant will provide design services for the five identified pilot facilities concurrently. • The City intends to phase out gas-burning equipment in municipal facilities and transition to fully electrified systems. • The Consultant shall treat each building facility as a separate project, each with its own deliverables, permitting, cost, schedule, etc. • The City will provide reviews and comment on what may be necessary to complete design milestones and/or approve completion of design milestones and cost estimates.
