The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is seeking information from companies that can provide short tandem repeat (STR) typing of unidentified human remains. The FBI is looking for vendors who can meet the requirements outlined in the request for information, including the use of validated/accredited procedures for the isolation of human DNA and STR typing of human DNA at the 20 Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) loci from calcified tissues such as skeletal elements. The vendor must also provide all standard operating procedure (SOP) and other quality system documents related to the testing of FBI samples for review. Some key points to consider include:
• The vendor will bear all costs of all material and personnel used for laboratory analyses.
• The vendor must use a National DNA Index System (NDIS) approved autosomal STR DNA testing kit.
• The vendor will report monthly on progress to include providing curated DNA profile information from all samples tested that month in tabular form by sample to the FBI Technical Point of Contact (TPOC).
• The vendor will assign each skeletal element tested with a unique identifier and use that identifier throughout the sample’s processing.
