Description

The Administration for Community Living (ACL) is issuing a federal grant opportunity to state agencies to develop or expand Lifespan Respite Care systems. Ten cooperative agreements will be funded over a three‑year period to support statewide respite services for family caregivers of children and adults, regardless of disability or chronic condition. Two options are available: (A) grants for states that have never received or have lapsed from a prior grant, and (B) enhancement grants for states with existing programs seeking to expand services. Funding ranges from $300,000 to $500,000 per award, with an estimated total funding pool of $4.43 million. Applicants must be eligible state agencies (e.g., aging and disability resource centers or agencies designated by the governor) and must demonstrate capacity to collaborate with statewide respite coalitions, provide training, reduce service gaps, and engage caregivers. • Eligible applicants: State governments/aging & disability resource centers. • Funding mechanism: Cooperative Agreement (approx. $300‑$500 K per award). • Project period: 3 years, starting Sep 30 2027. • Number of awards: Up to 10. • Core objectives: Build statewide respite infrastructure, expand volunteer options, provide caregiver‑focused services, and ensure inclusive access across all ages and conditions. • Required collaborations: State respite coalitions, community agencies, and caregiver representatives.
