Health Officer

Nevada County is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the County's Health Officer. The selected proposer will provide expertise and response to public health emergencies and disasters as a Health Officer and Registrar for Nevada County. The scope of work includes programmatic health officer responsibilities, communicable disease control, emergency response, and consultation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medicine and public health, with experience in public health related work and knowledge of the principles and practice of public health. • Programmatic Health Officer Responsibilities: enforce statutes and public health orders, organize and maintain an immunization program, act as County Health Officer to support the Vital Records Registration Unit, assist with the review and approval of medical protocols, and conduct annual inspections of jail and holding facilities. • Communicable Disease Control: provide consultation to department PHNs and private community providers, provide medical consultation and take measures to manage communicable disease outbreaks, and serve as County Tuberculosis (TB) Controller, County Sexually Transmitted Disease Controller, HIV Controller, and County Communicable Disease Controller. • Emergency Response: act as Medical Health Operational Area Coordinator (MHOAC), act as County Health Officer during a declared incident or emergency, provide representation and guidance to Nevada County Emergency Medical Care Committee, and participate in periodic emergency disaster drills. • Consultation: serve as medical expert and county authority on rabies-related issues, provide medical consultation on employee health policies and employee health screenings, provide guidance for medical assessments and treatments related to reproductive health and family planning, and review records, charts, and reports of the Truckee reproductive health clinic nurse practitioners and those of the Senior Outreach Services nurses on a biannual basis.
