The FDA is seeking to procure a new wavelength-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (WD-XRF) spectrometer system for the Color Certification Branch. The system will be used for high-throughput sample determinations of elemental impurities in certifiable color additives, research, and analysis of regulatory samples. The contractor shall provide a WD-XRF system that meets or exceeds the requirements specified in Section 6 of the solicitation, including sensitivity, precision, and service support. The contract will include a one-year warranty and options for extended service agreements.
Some key features of the required system include:
• Capability for both system-automated and manual loading of samples
• Capability to load samples externally during system operation
• Capability to recognize sample types including solid, liquid, and powder
• Capability to measure multiple applications in one run from the same sample changer tray
• A primary excitation X-ray tube with no less than 2.4 kW power supply
• A goniometer and analyzing crystals suitable for WD-XRF spectrometry applications
• Detection and counting electronics, including a flow proportional counter and a scintillation counter type of detector
• Computer and software that meet FDA information technology guidelines and are capable of defining spectral peaks, predicting element identity, and resolving complex peak overlaps.
