Description

Sarasota County is soliciting bids from qualified contractors to repair, fabricate, and install wayfinding signage throughout the Englewood Main Street District. The existing signs, installed in 2022, were severely damaged during the 2024 hurricane season; some have fallen, others are broken, and a number have been removed. The scope includes evaluating and repairing 14 identified signs, fabricating and installing 5 new signs, and providing new breakaway pole bases and protective covers per FDOT standards. The contractor must handle all permitting, waste disposal, and provide a one‑year warranty on workmanship and materials. Work must be completed within twelve months of a County purchase order, and the award will go to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. Federal FEMA grant funding applies, imposing additional compliance requirements. • Repair 14 existing wayfinding signs (paint, structural fixes, breakaway kit upgrades). • Fabricate and install 5 new signs to County‑approved specifications, including new pole bases. • Provide and install breakaway sign pole bases and aluminum protective covers. • Submit shop drawings for County approval prior to fabrication. • Obtain all necessary permits (County reimburses permit fees only). • Coordinate with Sunshine State One‑Call for any excavation >10 in. • Maintain required insurance (workers’ comp, $1 M CG/L, $1 M auto, performance/bond if >$350 k). • Complete the project within 12 months of order receipt; provide a 1‑year warranty. • Comply with FEMA grant terms and local preference rules (though preferences are waived for this grant).

Budget estimate

$250,000 – $600,000

The solicitation does not disclose a contract ceiling, but the scope (repair of 14 signs, fabrication/installation of 5 new signs, provision of breakaway systems, and associated engineering/permit work) suggests a mid‑size public‑works project. Similar municipal signage upgrades in Florida typically range from $250,000 to $600,000 depending on material quality, labor rates, and the extent of structural repairs. The presence of FEMA grant funding may cap the reimbursable amount, but the contractor will still be responsible for the full scope. Therefore, a reasonable estimate is $250k‑$600k.
