The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) intends to negotiate and award a purchase order without providing for full and open competition to Ozgene for mouse colony breeding services. The purpose of this acquisition is to provide NHLBI with mouse models carrying the human δ-globin gene that can be used to evaluate the impact of the KLF1–GATA1 fusion protein and candidate compounds on SCD and β-thalassemia phenotypes. The contractor will perform the mouse colony breeding service following specific procedures, including expanding and crossing mouse lines, and generating fully humanized mice expressing either normal human hemoglobin or hemoglobin with a thalassemic mutation. The period of performance will be 12-15 months, starting on June 1, 2026. Key requirements include:
• Providing mouse models carrying the human δ-globin gene
• Generating fully humanized mice expressing either normal human hemoglobin or hemoglobin with a thalassemic mutation
• Performing mouse colony breeding services, including expanding and crossing mouse lines
• Delivering specific numbers of humanized mice, including males and females, 6-8 weeks old
