Description

The San Diego Unified Port District is seeking a qualified contractor to rehabilitate the concrete marginal wharf at National City Marine Terminal (NCMT) berths 24‑3 and 24‑4. The work encompasses demolition of existing deck sections, pile cap removal, repair and jacketing of existing piles, construction of a new reinforced‑concrete deck, replacement of waterfront hardware (bull rails, fenders, mooring hardware), and installation/replacement of utilities and site improvements. The project is partially funded by a federal MARAD grant and must comply with Buy America/Build America requirements, prevailing‑wage rules, and a mandatory Project Labor Agreement. The contract is valued at approximately $35.5 million, with a construction schedule of 470 calendar days and an optional 30‑day extension for additive items.

Budget estimate

$1,800,000 – $3,500,000

The contract’s engineer estimate is $35.5 M. Assuming a typical contractor profit margin of 5‑10 % for large civil‑engineering projects, the expected earnings for the prime contractor would fall roughly between $1.8 M and $3.5 M. Factors influencing the final amount include the scope of additive items, subcontractor pricing, and any mandated SBE participation.
