Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking a transmission electron microscope for negative-stain grids screening. The microscope must have specific features such as a 120 kV transmission electron microscope, a GUI based on Windows 11, and a user logon with a lock-out mechanism. The microscope must also have a seamless magnification series, a 4-position motorized aperture control, and a software-based solution to control microscope parameters. The selected vendor will be required to provide on-site applications training and a 3-year warranty. The contract will be a firm fixed-price purchase order, with payments due 30% upon receipt of order, 60% upon delivery, and 10% upon acceptance. • The microscope must be parfocal, with focus not changing with a change in magnification. • The microscope must have an image orientation system (IOS) that allows for rotation of the image ±90º degrees in increments of 15º or less. • The microscope must have a function where the brightness on the detector is kept constant when changing magnification. • The microscope must come with a 2k x 2k scientific CMOS-type camera and be fully integrated in the microscope’s control software. • The microscope must have exchangeable polepieces, i.e. a High Contrast (HC) or High Resolution (HR) model. • The microscope must have an anti-contaminator device, or cryo-shield, to protect cryo-EM specimens from ice contamination.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

Based on the complexity and specificity of the transmission electron microscope, the budget for this opportunity is likely to be in the range of $500,000 to $2,000,000. This estimate takes into account the cost of the microscope, the required features and functionality, and the 3-year warranty. The actual budget may vary depending on the vendor's quote and the NIH's budget for this procurement. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the vendor's experience and reputation, the level of competition for the contract, and the NIH's priorities and budget constraints.
