The National Park Service intends to award a cooperative agreement to Montana State University for a project titled "Population Management Analysis for Condor Program Efficiencies". The project aims to evaluate California condor population viability and management by modeling the impact of proposed changes to management actions on short and long-term survival. The project will improve park management and greatly increase program efficiency. The recipient, Montana State University, will be responsible for conducting the analysis, while the National Park Service will provide data and participate in periodic meetings to discuss study findings and management recommendations.
• The project will evaluate the impact of changing the number of condors released from zoos at release sites in California annually.
• The project will evaluate the impact of changing treatment protocol of condors with lead poisoning.
• The project will evaluate the impact of modifying the intensity of condor nest management.
• The project will inform Pinnacles National Park, Redwood National Park, and the Pacific West Regional Office in overall condor management and planning.
