3D Imaging and Analysis System for Firearm and Toolmark Examination

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Forensic Laboratory Firearms Unit is seeking a 3D imaging and analysis system for firearm and toolmark forensic examinations. The system should include a high-capacity benchtop scanning system and a portable 3D scanning system, along with associated software, hardware, training, and maintenance/support. The system will be used for the acquisition, visualization, comparison, and database searching of three-dimensional topography of fired cartridge cases, bullets, bullet fragments, and other toolmarks. Key features of the system include high-resolution 3D imaging capability, automated or semi-automated scanning, and the ability to produce repeatable, court-defensible 3D scans. • The system must be suitable for routine forensic casework and capable of integration into an accredited forensic laboratory environment. • The system must support data creation and storage and provide the capability for inter-agency search functionality. • The system must be installed on site and operational no later than August 15, 2026.
