Description

This opportunity calls for the reconstruction of approximately 18.5 miles of a 115 kV transmission line in Alaska, upgrading it to a 230 kV standard with new steel H‑frame structures, self‑supporting steel poles, a larger‑capacity ACSR conductor (“Drake”), and installation of OPGW fiber optic cable. The contractor will be responsible for all material procurement (except owner‑furnished items), site preparation, foundation installation, erection of structures, conductor and OPGW placement, coordination of outages, and provision of a two‑year workmanship warranty. Key contractual requirements include a 10 % bid bond, builder’s risk insurance, strict outage‑day liquidated damages, and adherence to union labor agreements post‑award. The project must be started within 30 days of the Notice to Proceed and completed by June 30 2027.

Budget estimate

$15,000,000 – $30,000,000

No contract value is disclosed, but a full 18.5‑mile 230 kV transmission line rebuild with steel structures, new conductor, OPGW, and associated civil works in remote Alaska typically ranges from $15 million to $30 million. Factors influencing the estimate include material costs (steel structures, ACSR conductor, fiber), logistics for remote delivery, labor (union rates), and the tight schedule with liquidated‑damage penalties.
