Description

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is seeking a qualified NAGPRA‑qualified bioarchaeologist to conduct field‑based evaluation of fragmentary human bones uncovered during archaeological investigations. The work will be performed on‑site, requiring specialized expertise in osteological analysis, compliance with NAGPRA regulations, and timely reporting of findings. • Conduct in‑field analysis of fragmentary skeletal remains to determine cultural affiliation and preservation status. • Prepare detailed documentation, including photographs, measurements, and interpretive reports that satisfy NAGPRA compliance. • Coordinate with SCDNR staff and other stakeholders to ensure proper handling, curation, and repatriation processes as required.

Budget estimate

$5,000 – $15,000

The scope suggests a short‑term, highly specialized field assignment. Based on typical rates for licensed bioarchaeologists (approximately $150–$250 per hour) and an estimated 40–80 hours of work (including travel, analysis, and reporting), the contract value is likely to fall between $5,000 and $15,000. Factors influencing the final amount include travel distance, complexity of the bone assemblage, and any additional compliance documentation required.
