The County of San Luis Obispo is seeking an independent, non‑affiliated forensic pathology provider to perform full and partial autopsies, external examinations, specimen collection, documentation, and expert testimony in compliance with California AB 1108. The services are on an as‑needed basis, with a one‑year contract term and four optional renewal years. Providers must hold California medical licenses, board certifications in pathology and forensic pathology, and carry $2 M commercial general liability and professional liability insurance. Proposals are due electronically by 3:00 p.m. on October 9, 2026. • Perform forensic autopsies, external exams, and post‑mortem documentation for in‑custody and officer‑involved deaths. • Collect and preserve toxicology, histology, and DNA specimens with strict chain‑of‑custody. • Deliver detailed pathology reports within 30‑60 days and enter data into the state death registry. • Provide 24/7 telephonic consultation and expert witness testimony as required. • Must be independent of the Sheriff‑Coroner office and meet all licensing, certification, and insurance requirements.
