Description

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is seeking a high fidelity Martian regolith simulant for scientific, engineering, and biological studies. The required characteristics of the simulant include a particle size range of 0.04 um to 1000 um, a bulk density between 1.3 and 1.4 g/cm3, an angle of repose between 30 and 40 degrees, and a specific mineralogy. The simulant should be available in a quantity of 1000 kg within 2 months of award. The delivery address is the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL. Some key points to consider are: • The simulant must be research-grade and engineered to replicate the physical, chemical, and mineralogical characteristics of Martian surface material. • The particle size distribution should be representative of the Martian surface. • The simulant should include all listed minerals, comprising at least 95% of the total weight. • The contractor must be registered at www.sam.gov to be considered for award. • The contract will be awarded to the responsible offeror whose offer is the lowest price technically acceptable.

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $500,000

The budget for this opportunity is not explicitly stated in the document. However, based on the requirements and the fact that NASA is seeking a research-grade Martian regolith simulant, it can be estimated that the budget will be substantial. The cost of producing such a simulant could range from $100,000 to $500,000 or more, depending on the complexity of the project and the quantity of the simulant required. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the cost of materials, labor, and equipment, as well as the level of expertise required to produce the simulant.
