FY26 COPS Hiring Program

The FY26 COPS Hiring Program is a grant opportunity provided by the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) to fund law enforcement agencies in hiring and/or rehiring additional career sworn law enforcement officers/deputies. The purpose of this program is to increase community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. Anticipated outcomes of this program include engagement in planned community partnerships, implementation of projects to analyze and assess problems, and increased capacity of agencies to engage in community policing activities. Key aspects of this opportunity include: • Eligible applicants are limited to established and operational local, state, territorial, and Tribal law enforcement agencies with primary law enforcement authority. • The estimated funding for this program is $157,594,000, with an award ceiling of $6,250,000. • The application submission period is from June 9, 2026, to July 23, 2026. • Technical assistance is available through the COPS Office Response Center and the Grants.gov customer service hotline.
