The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking a qualified professional company to provide preliminary engineering services for the Polly Ann Trail modernization and safety improvements project. The project involves designing and specifying additions, changes, or corrections necessary to bring the 37-mile trail up to current state and federal guidelines and safety standards. The selected proponent will need to assess the current condition of the trail, identify cost-effective materials and specifications for trailway improvements, and prepare designs that reduce maintenance needs over the project's useful life. The project will be conducted under the guidance of the DNR and shall be completed in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and contractual guidelines.
Some key aspects of the project include:
• Trail surface improvements, such as removal and disposal of old fence, pavement, and contaminated soils
• Green infrastructure improvements and native plantings
• Intersection compliance with ADA and AASHTO standards
• Signage, including warning, regulatory, and informational signs
• Trailheads and site furniture, such as vehicle parking, shade shelters, and benches
The project is expected to be completed in phases, with the construction phase anticipated to start in 2028/2029.
