Description

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for research on the gut microbiome-brain axis for the purpose of identifying improved detection, prevention, and intervention strategies for environmental exposure-induced neurological diseases. The scope of this program includes a wide range of neurological outcomes, such as mental health disorders and chronic neurodegenerative conditions. The objective is to develop gut-focused intervention strategies to decrease risk, slow progression, or reverse these neurological conditions. • The program will utilize the R01 activity code. • Collaborative investigations combining expertise in toxicology, microbiome, and neuroscience are encouraged. • Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are allowed. • The estimated funding for this opportunity is $4,000,000, with 8 awards expected.
