Description

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of providing zircon petrochronology analysis services. The requirement consists of analysis of approximately three (3) rock samples to generate U-Th-Pb and Lu-Hf isotopic data in support of geologic research. The work includes preparation of rock samples, imaging and characterization of zircons, split-stream laser ablation analysis, and generation of analytical datasets and associated documentation. • The contractor shall have experience in all aspects of mineral separation and zircon petrochronology using LASS methods. • The contractor shall provide deliverables in a report for each sample in spreadsheet format, with both the raw and interpreted data included. • The USGS will ship intact rock samples to the vendor in one shipment. • Analyses will be completed at the vendor's facility.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $200,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate as the document does not provide a specific budget or pricing information. However, based on the scope of work, which includes the analysis of three rock samples, and the requirement for the contractor to have experience in mineral separation and zircon petrochronology, it can be estimated that the budget will be in the range of $50,000 to $200,000. This estimate is based on the assumption that the cost of analyzing one rock sample will be around $15,000 to $60,000, considering the complexity of the analysis and the expertise required. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the vendor's experience, the location of the vendor's facility, and the availability of resources.
