Description

The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is offering a tech licensing opportunity for the synthesis of tungsten tetraboride (WB4) using Electric Field Assisted Sintering (EFAS). This method produces WB4 with minimal impurities and maximum hardness, making it suitable for various applications such as industrial machining, defense and ballistic protection, and nuclear safety. The technology has been demonstrated to produce WB4 samples with hardness approaching theoretical maximum. The INL is seeking a partner to commercialize this technology. • Enhanced material quality through minimal impurities and maximum hardness • Scalability for producing larger batches and custom sizes • Cost-effectiveness through less expensive raw materials and optimized synthesis process • Radiation resistance suitable for nuclear applications • Various market applications including industrial machining, defense and ballistic protection, and nuclear safety

Budget estimate

$100,000 – $1,000,000

The budget for this opportunity is difficult to estimate as it is a tech licensing agreement. However, considering the potential applications and the fact that the INL is seeking a partner to commercialize the technology, the budget could be substantial. The licensing fees could range from $100,000 to $1 million or more, depending on the terms of the agreement and the success of the commercialization. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the scope of the license, the territory covered, and the duration of the agreement.
