Description

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is seeking a Circular Dichroism Spectrometer to analyze prion fibrils and support the objective of understanding the pathogenesis of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). The instrument should be capable of measuring CD, LD, and Absorbance simultaneously, have a wavelength range of 163-950 nm, and include a complete software suite compatible with data acquired from the current CD spectrometer in use. The vendor must provide onsite installation and training, including instrument and software familiarization, and service/support personnel. Key features of the spectrometer include: * Dual prism polarizing monochromator with a parallel (collimated) beam * Wavelength range of 163-950 nm with less than 0.0003% stray light at 200 nm * Xenon 150W supracil, air-cooled light source * Integrated wavelength calibration source with an optimized N2 purge * Integrated mercury lamp for wavelength calibration * Peltier Temperature control system with range from -40oC to +130oC * Temperature control software for temperature scan and programming * Thermal analysis software for determination of melting point, enthalpy, and entropy * Scanning Emission Monochromator for Fluorescence scanning * Computer with minimum 16 GB RAM and 256 GB solid state drive and monitor The USDA requires delivery of the instrument by 11/1/2026, and the award will be made to the offeror with the highest technically rated quotation with fair and reasonable pricing and acceptable or neutral past performance.

Budget estimate

$50,000 – $200,000

The budget for this opportunity is likely to be in the range of $50,000 to $200,000, considering the complexity and specificity of the Circular Dichroism Spectrometer. The exact budget will depend on the vendor's quotation and the evaluation of the offer by the USDA. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the cost of the instrument, installation, training, and maintenance, as well as the vendor's reputation and experience in providing similar equipment.
