Description

The United States Army is seeking information on potential industry partners capable of supplying, designing, manufacturing, and delivering an Extreme Cold Weather Sleeping Bag System for Soldiers operating in extreme cold weather environments. The system should be lightweight, highly compressible, and durable, providing thermal protection and enabling necessary, uninterrupted sleep in extreme cold weather environments (down to -60°F) when heated shelters are unavailable. The key performance parameters include environmental protection, weight, moisture management, ventilation, volume, size, signature management, system operability, and durability. Interested sources should provide information on their current product(s) and how they address the requirements listed above. • The system should provide adequate warmth down to -40°F (Threshold) and -60°F (Objective) for 4 hours (Threshold) to 6 hours (Objective) of uninterrupted sleep. • The total system weight should be 5.0 lbs (Threshold) and 2.5 lbs (Objective). • The system should be highly water-resistant and optimize space in load-carrying equipment. • The system should have an adjustable head-area stand-off and non-detachable, high-airflow face covering to mitigate expiratory ice buildup. • The system should have a total compressed volume of not more than 22 Liters (Threshold) and 10 Liters (Objective).

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $5,000,000

Given the complexity and specificity of the Extreme Cold Weather Sleeping Bag System, it's challenging to provide an exact budget estimation. However, considering the requirements for the system, including its weight, moisture management, and thermal protection, the development and production of such a system could be costly. The estimated budget could range from $500,000 to $5,000,000, depending on the scope of the project, the number of units required, and the production costs. Factors that may influence the likely payment range include the complexity of the design, the materials used, the production volume, and the testing requirements.
