Surgical Sponge Detection System with complete service plan

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a complete Surgical Sponge Detection System utilizing RF technology to prevent retained surgical items. The system should include equipment, installation, training, and a multi-year service plan. The contract will be for a base period with three 12-month option years. The system must meet specific technical requirements, including FDA 510(k) clearance and compliance with IEC 60601 medical electrical safety standards. The contractor will be responsible for installation, training, and maintenance of the system. • The system must include a console, handheld scanner, and room scanner. • The system must be able to detect surgical sponges, lap pads, and towels with radio-frequency identification (RFID) or x-ray detectable markers. • The system must meet specific performance requirements, including a detection depth of at least 6 inches and visual, audible, and vibration alerts. • The contractor must provide a complete care service plan, including preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and a loaner equipment program. • The contractor must provide training to VA staff on the use and maintenance of the system.
