Description

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking proposals for the Compositional Learning-And-Reasoning for AI Complex Systems Engineering (CLARA) program. The program aims to develop a scientific, theory-driven architectural foundation for the hierarchical composition of a wide variety of Machine Learning (ML) and Automated Reasoning (AR) subsystems. The goal is to create high assurance, broadly applicable AI systems of systems. Proposers are expected to submit innovative basic or applied research concepts in the technical domain of high assurance artificial intelligence systems. The program consists of two Technical Areas (TAs): TA1, which focuses on developing high assurance ML/AR composition approaches, and TA2, which focuses on developing a software composition library to support inter-approach compositions. Proposers must address the program's technical areas, metrics, and milestones in their proposals. Some key points to consider: • The program aims to create high assurance AI systems of systems by developing a scientific, theory-driven architectural foundation for the hierarchical composition of ML and AR subsystems. • Proposers must submit innovative basic or applied research concepts in the technical domain of high assurance artificial intelligence systems. • The program consists of two Technical Areas: TA1 and TA2. • TA1 focuses on developing high assurance ML/AR composition approaches. • TA2 focuses on developing a software composition library to support inter-approach compositions. • Proposers must address the program's technical areas, metrics, and milestones in their proposals. • The total award value for the combined Phase 1 and Phase 2 is limited to $2,000,000. • The program duration is 24 months. • Proposals are due by April 17, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. ET.

Budget estimate

$1,000,000 – $2,000,000

The total award value for the combined Phase 1 and Phase 2 is limited to $2,000,000. This amount includes Government funding and performer cost share, if required or proposed. The award value is expected to cover the costs of research and development, personnel, and other expenses associated with the project. The budget estimation is based on the assumption that the award will be used to support the development of innovative AI and machine learning technologies, and that the selected performer will be responsible for managing the award and ensuring that the project is completed within the specified timeframe and budget.
