Description

The Town of Christiansburg, in partnership with the New River Valley Regional Commission, seeks an architecture/engineering (A/E) firm to develop a Transportation Action Plan under the Federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. The selected firm will perform crash analyses, active‑transportation remediation studies, identify high‑injury networks, and create conceptual design solutions. The work will support a robust public‑engagement effort that includes surveys, town halls, working groups, and stakeholder collaboration to prioritize systemic improvements and location‑specific actions. • Conduct data analyses and crash modeling to identify safety hot spots. • Develop conceptual design concepts and systemic improvement actions for the transportation network. • Lead public‑engagement activities (surveys, town halls, workshops) to gather stakeholder input and prioritize projects. • Coordinate closely with Town staff and the New River Valley Regional Commission throughout plan development. • Deliver a complete Transportation Action Plan ready for pursuing FHWA funding.

Budget estimate

$180,000 – $500,000

The scope involves comprehensive data analysis, safety evaluation, stakeholder engagement, and conceptual design for a municipal transportation action plan. Based on typical rates for professional engineering firms in Virginia (approx. $150‑$250 per hour) and an estimated effort of 1,200‑2,000 hours over a 6‑month period, the total contract value is likely between $180,000 and $500,000. Factors influencing the range include the depth of crash analysis, number of public‑engagement events, and the level of detail required in the final plan.
