Description
The National Park Service intends to award a task agreement under a previously competed or single source justified cooperative agreement to North Carolina State University for the project "Interactive Analytics for Natural & Cultural Resource Management" at Congaree National Park. The project aims to create an easily accessible way for the public to access information and research about natural and cultural resources at the park. The project will present existing research information in a searchable database with an accompanying map that shows exactly where the research occurred. The project has the following objectives: improve access to and leverage the full benefits of the extensive research archive at Congaree National Park, improve resource management decisions affecting specific locations in the park, and improve compliance and field activities for all areas of park operations. The key tasks of the project include reviewing existing GIS data and Phase I report, visiting the park to review the park archives and management documents, bi-annual meetings with NPS staff, fieldwork as needed, curating data and metadata for research sites, analyzing data and bibliography, and presenting findings.
• The project will create a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data layer where each feature is tied to an attribute table with information about the type of data collected, the date of collection, the researcher name, the study topic, and other related data.
• The project will create a bibliography file and digital folder with PDF copies of all manuscripts referenced in the GIS database.
• The project will provide staff, researchers, and partners with access to the products.
• The project will help facilitate geographic and thematic access to the large research archive at Congaree National Park.
• The project will improve resource management decisions affecting specific locations in the park and specific habitat types.
