Description

The City of Orlando is seeking a third-party administrator to handle workers' compensation claims for its sworn firefighters. The successful proposer will provide pharmacy benefit management and preferred provider organization medical services. The contract will have a three-year term with the option to extend for up to seven additional 12-month periods. The proposer must have at least five years of experience providing similar services to governmental entities and at least three years of experience handling first responder claims. Key responsibilities include providing claim reviews, status reports, and settlement evaluations, as well as investigating and managing claims. The proposer must also provide a dedicated account manager and maintain a diary system for tracking claims. Some key points to consider: * The City has 584 sworn firefighters and currently uses CorVel Corporation for TPA services. * The City has a self-insured program and has been self-insured since 1983. * The City's Risk Management Division oversees the activities of the TPA and has a Risk Management Committee that meets monthly to review and approve claim settlements. * The proposer must provide quarterly claim reviews and formal status reports on files with total incurred reserves of $25,000 or more. * The proposer must also provide a realistic reserve for each claim and review reserves at least every six months. * The City has a light duty program and most employees can be temporarily placed in sedentary positions. * The City requires the proposer to have experience with workers' compensation claims and to be licensed and in good standing in the state of Florida for Third-Party Claim Administration. * The City also requires the proposer to provide a detailed proposal outlining their experience, approach, and pricing for the services. * The City will evaluate proposals based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and price. * The City reserves the right to reject any or all proposals and to negotiate with the selected proposer.

Budget estimate

$500,000 – $2,000,000

Based on the information provided, it is difficult to estimate the exact budget for this opportunity. However, considering the scope of work and the fact that the City has 584 sworn firefighters, it is likely that the budget will be substantial. The City's current contract with CorVel Corporation is expiring, and the City is seeking a new third-party administrator to handle workers' compensation claims. The proposer will be responsible for providing pharmacy benefit management and preferred provider organization medical services, which may involve significant costs. Additionally, the proposer will be required to provide a dedicated account manager and maintain a diary system for tracking claims, which may also incur costs. Given these factors, a rough estimate for the budget could be between $500,000 and $2 million per year, depending on the scope of services and the number of claims handled. However, this is a very rough estimate and should be taken as a ballpark figure. The actual budget could be higher or lower, depending on various factors such as the proposer's pricing, the City's claim volume, and the complexity of the claims handled.
