USNA Confocal Microscope System

The United States Naval Academy (USNA) Chemistry Department is seeking a confocal microscope system to support research and project-based learning in biological chemistry. The system should be capable of imaging objects ranging from 1-500 microns in size with resolution as low as ~100 nm for multiple colors with both tunable filters and spectral imaging. The inverted motorized microscope must have objectives with a magnification ranging from at least 4x to 60x and be capable of long-term measurements, including maintaining focus, visiting multiple locations, and maintaining a consistent temperature with an incubation system. • The system should be able to perform non-invasive, three-dimensional imaging of structures in both materials and living cells. • The use of fluorescent labels should be possible to identify specific molecules or components in a complex space amongst other unlabeled structures. • The system should be equipped with a cage incubator to open up more possible biochemical and biological uses. • The contractor should provide a capability statement addressing the particulars of this effort, with appropriate documentation supporting claims of such capability.
